During the 1920’s and 1930’s, George L. Spencer and Harry R Harne, Sr. worked together in the plastering trade. They worked from Newport News, Virginia to Washington, D.C., usually for plastering contractor. In November of 1925 Harry married Agnes R. Spencer. From this marriage came the possibility of a plastering company.
In 1948, near Mt. Airy, Maryland, Harry R. Harne, Sr. and his oldest son, George F. Harne, Sr., started a two man plastering business. It was called Harry R. Harne & Sons. Both Harry and George worked hard to establish a reputation of excellence. They must have been successful. Then, as now, residential work was the business’s bread and butter.
In 1960, Harry R. Harne Jr. joined the business, making it a three person company. Harry Sr. retired in 1964 and in the late 1960’s the company’s name was changed to Harne Plastering Co. George and Harry Jr. worked together until George’s retirement in 1995.
Harry Jr. became President of the company and to this day continues the tradition of quality Harry Sr. and George had maintained.
In 2004, Harry Jr.’s son, Harry R Harne III, joined the team full time, bringing the company into it’s third generation.
We at Harne Plastering Co. thank you for this opportunity to give a history of our company.
