Interior and Exterior work on a 1930’s house
Interior Work
Back to Completed Jobs
We did this work for Greg Curry of Curry Custom Homes, who had been hired as the general contractor on this project.  The existing home was completely upgraded and renovated and restored.  A two story addition was added to the rear of the house.
Much of our work was done to the interior walls and ceilings.  This included old plaster repair and replacement of old lath and plaster on all existing first floor ceilings.  The existing ceilings were removed to allow hot water heat tubes to be installed in the floor above.  The contractor then added insulation, and the ceiling was replastered.
We used a conventional plaster and rock lath on these ceilings to match the fire-retardant quality of the original rock lath and 1/2" thick gypsum basecoat plaster.
All walls of the existing home were also repaired and resurfaced by us.  We used a bonding agent and a veneer plaster system.
The new addition included on the second floor a master bedroom, master bath, closets, hall, and an elevator.  The first floor contained a  large garage, a hall, and the elevator.
The new rooms were plastered with a combination of two coat veneer plaster and conventional plaster systems.
The garage ceiling was plastered with a conventional rock lath and lightweight gypsum plaster.  This was finished with a smooth plaster finish.  This system of plaster is a four (4) hour fire rated ceiling, which is more than required for the fire code.  The common house wall was also plastered with the same materials for the same fire code requirement.

Exterior Work
The upper part of the original home was a cement stucco material with a float sand finish.  We repaired this original stucco wherever necessary.  Then we cleaned the existing stucco, applied a synthetic basecoat material, and finished with a synthetic stucco finish.  The new texture matched the existing texture, and the homeowners selected a color for the finish.
On the new addition we used a complete synthetic system including one and a half inch (1 1/2" ) rigid foam with a grooved draining system on the back of the foam.  This allows moisture and condensation to leave the structure.
The finish stucco, new and old, looked very pleasing to the eye, especially with the lower level of the house being red brick.

This home is in a very nice part of Frederick, and was originally built as a very solid house.
All of the new work was done to very high standards to closely compliment the original construction.
It was a very satisfying project for our plastering and stucco skills.
