St. Elizabeth Seton’s House

This project was wonderful to work on.  The house, which is half stone and half wood framing, was moved from the old college property.  That land is now the Federal Fire Academy.
After the house was moved, and stabilized on a new foundation, a decision was made to remove all of the old, fractured stucco from the frame and the stone portions of the house.
We installed galvanized metal lath over the frame and stone.  Then we applied a “historic” mixture of lime, sand, and a very small amount of cement,
The finish was done to match the original, which was a partially troweled surface with marked blocks.

After...
We installed a window on the stone section to expose what the original joints looked like.
We also did repair to the interior of the house.  This work was done over old wood lath that was a “milled lath” in some areas and “hand split” wood lath in other areas.  The difference in the wood lath was due to the difference in ages of the stone and frame sections.
This “house” is quite impressive with it’s history and style of construction.

The Historic St. Elizabeth Seton’s House is a wonderful place to visit, and her grave and Shrine are located nearby.
